Niacinamide: The Ultimate Skin Rescue Ingredient

Niacinamide or also known as Vitmain B3 is ESSNTLS go to active ingredient for skincare with it being a powerful anti-aging molecule, cancer preventer, acne destroyer, and much. If you don’t have a product with niacinamide in it yet, I would get on that asap. Even our Purifying Light Foaming Cleanser has Niacinamide to restore and balance your skin to prevent acne and rejuvenate the skin while cleansing your face. We don’t want to spill any secrets either, but we also have some new products coming Fall 2019 that will give you all the Niacinamide you need!

So how does Niacinamide do it all? It provides many benefits with its main function as stabilizing the epidermal/dermal barrier function (layers of your skin). Having the best skin is all about having a balanced and strong skin barrier and niacinamide will do just that for you. The best part is that it is super gentle so it is great for almost all skin types! We have 7 reasons why Niacnamide is so great and how it does its job for the skin.

What it does and how it works

1.       Aging (fine lines and wrinkles): Many factors attribute to aging but as the skin’s barrier starts to break down and skin cells deplete causing the skin to create wrinkles and dull aging skin. Niacinamide is a precursor to a molecule NAD/NADP which are more commonly known to play a crucial role in energy production for processes in the body. Due to this process, it helps with the production of kertain (skin structure proteins) and ceramides (skin structure and moisture retainer waxy lipid) that are significantly in the aging process creating the appearance of dull, drooping, wrinkled skin.

2.       Prevents Skin Cancer (photocarcinogenesis): Niacinamide protects the skin cells from reactive oxygen species (ROS) that can create cancer from UVC rays.

3.       Prevents Acne: NADP also works to prevent (ROS) which are species that can create inflammation/acne breakouts. Niacinamide also has been shown to change the content of the sebum, or the oils in the pores, that creates acne on the skin. By changing the sebum triglyceride fatty content, it makes a big difference in the acne produced.

4.       Reduces Hyperpigmentation: Many studies have been performed now to look at the effects in the reduction of hyperpigmentation with Niacinamide. This is due to the super molecule preventing melanin (pigment that gives us color of our skin) being transferred to the skin cells (keratinocytes).

5.       Improves Rosacea: Roasacea has been shown in many studies to occur when the stratum corneum is weakened and has a loss of moisture creating redness and bumps. Through the combination of the function in which Niacinamide performs like I already mentioned, it prevents the inflammation and breakout of Rosacea.

6.       Reduces Yellowing: Back to our ROS.. Niacinamide prevents the oxidation reaction between a sugar and a protein that creates a yellow-looking complex. By Niacinamide preventing this complex to be formed, it reduces yellow as well!

7.       Redefines skin surface texture: Niacinamide with its ability to support the skin layers and skin cells and a reduction of inflammation, it allows for a finer texture on the surface and giving your overall healthier and younger rejuvenated skin!
